Bishop Charles Henry Brent

Heavenly Father, whose Son prayed that we all might be one: deliver us from arrogance and prejudice, and give us wisdom and forbearance, that, following your servant Charles Henry Brent, we may be united in one family with all who confess the Name of thy Son Jesus Christ: who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

 

 

Timeline of Brent’s Life
1862 Born in Canada.
1884 Graduated from Trinity College, Ontario, with classical honors.
1884 Ordained deacon.
1887 Ordained priest. Appointed to St. Andrews Mission, which became this parish.
1902 Consecrated missionary bishop of the Philippines.
1909 Chairman of International Opium Commission, Shanghai.
1911 Chairman of American delegation to the Internation Opium Conference, the Hague.
1918 Consecrated Bishop of Western New York.
1918 Chief of Chaplain Service, A.E.F.
1927 Organizer of first World Conference on Faith and Order, the forerunner of the World Council of Churches.
1929 Died in Lausanne, Switzerland.
